How to Stage a Foyer or Entryway

Style the first impression before buyers even step further into the home.

The entryway is the first room buyers see, and an empty entry reads as overlooked. A staged foyer — a console table with a lamp, a mirror above, a runner underfoot — signals that the entire home has been thought through. It only takes a few pieces, but those pieces set the emotional tone for everything that follows in the gallery.

Entryway staging is circulation-first. Nothing should block the door swing, hallway, staircase, or closet. A console table against a clear wall is the anchor, styled with a lamp and a small tray. A mirror or framed art above adds height. A runner rug grounds the space and guides the eye into the home. Narrow entries may only fit a runner; that's fine — restraint reads as intentional.

Furniture density levels

Minimal

Either a runner rug along the walkway or a small console table — not both. A single decorative object to round it out. Ideal for narrow or compact entries.

Balanced

Console table styled with a lamp and small tray, a mirror or framed art above, a runner rug, and a small floor plant. The standard for most entryways.

Full

Styled console with a layered vignette of lamp, tray, books, and vase; a statement mirror or large art above; a bench tucked beneath; runner rug; wall hooks; and a pair of plants. A first-impression entry for premium listings.
